The Arab Satellite Communications Organization (ARABSAT), the leading satellite operator in the Arab world, and Libya Telecom and Technology (LTT), one of Libya’s leading telecommunications providers, announced the signing of what they called a ‘‘Strategic Partnership Agreement’’, last Thursday (6 August).
Arabsat said the agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening satellite communications and supporting the continued development of Libya’s digital communications infrastructure.
The agreement establishes a long-term strategic collaboration between the two organizations, combining ARABSAT’s advanced satellite infrastructure and extensive regional coverage with LTT’s national telecommunications expertise to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable satellite communications solutions across Libya.
Under the agreement, ARABSAT will provide High Throughput Satellite (HTS) capacity on Arabsat-6A @ 30.5 degrees east to support LTT’s existing and future connectivity requirements. The partnership also creates a platform for both organizations to explore new opportunities for collaboration, expand service capabilities, and deliver innovative solutions that address the evolving needs of government, enterprise, telecommunications operators, and other critical sectors.
By leveraging their complementary strengths, ARABSAT and LTT aim to enhance network resilience, improve service continuity, and accelerate digital transformation, contributing to the sustainable growth of Libya’s communications ecosystem and digital economy.
It must be noted that the Libyan International Telecommunications Company (LITC) is one of ARABSAT’s principal shareholders.
Arabsat was established in 1976 through an initiative launched by 21 Arab countries and is wholly owned by the Arab League. It is considered the first provider of satellite services in the Arab world and enjoys an advanced position among satellite operators globally.
It owns a fleet of 8 satellites, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies able to provide a full spectrum TV and radio broadcast, telecommunications, broadband, advanced data transmission network solutions, and a range of satellite ecosystem services as well as multi-channel communications services, in addition to Internet services for government and commercial entities around the MENA region.
