The Libyan Centre for Remote Sensing and Space Science (LCRSSS) reported last Friday (16 October) that Professor Faisal A. Al-Abdali, Director General of the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research, conducted an inspection visit, on the same day, to the Murzuq branch of the LCRSSS.
The LCRSSS said the visit comes as part of its commitment to monitoring the status of research institutions and assessing their needs firsthand.
The LCRSSS said the visit included an inspection of the direct satellite data reception station—established in 2009 as one of the first stations designed to receive data from the French "SPOT 4 and 5" satellite series.
The direct satellite data reception station was sabotaged and rendered inoperative during the 2011 revolution.
The Libyan Authority for Scientific Research is currently working to reactivate the facility to enable data reception from various international satellites, with the aim of supporting sustainable development and space-related applications.
The Director General of the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research was accompanied during the visit by several officials from the Authority and its research centres, as well as a member of the Murzuq Municipal Council—a step, the Authority said, that underscores its dedication to reviving and developing its research centres across the entire country.
ARABSAT and LTT sign agreement
It will be recalled that on 6 August this year, the Arab Satellite Communications Organization (ARABSAT) and Libya Telecom and Technology (LTT) announced the signing of what they called a ‘‘Strategic Partnership Agreement’’.
Arabsat said the agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening satellite communications and supporting the continued development of Libya’s digital communications infrastructure.
The agreement establishes a long-term strategic collaboration between the two organizations, combining ARABSAT’s advanced satellite infrastructure and extensive regional coverage with LTT’s national telecommunications expertise to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable satellite communications solutions across Libya.
Launch of Libya’s first satellite for monitoring climate and desertification discussed
In a related vein, it will be recalled that the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research discussed a project to launch Libya’s first satellite for monitoring climate and desertification.
This came during a meeting held on 3 August at the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research’s Tripoli headquarters.
