Following the leakage of untreated naphtha from a tank in Zawia Oil Refinery after it was hit by a drone in the small hours of this morning, causing a leak that was quickly stopped, the Municipality ‎of North Zawia called for immediate action by the relevant authorities.

‎Zawiya Refinery Company reassured all citizens that its officials and employees have contained the situation and stopped the leakage. It also confirmed that there have been no fires or injuries to lives at the site.‎

‎Meanwhile, the Municipality ‎of North Zawia called for:

·       The opening of an official and urgent investigation into the incident of a drone colliding with one of the fuel tanks inside the refinery.

·       Determining the source of the drone and the party that launched it.

·       Holding accountable all those who are proven responsible or negligent.

·       Calling for a technical and environmental assessment of the damage resulting from the fuel leak.

·       Ensuring that there are no repercussions that threaten the safety of citizens, workers and the surrounding environment.

·       Taking all urgent measures to secure the refinery and vital facilities and prevent the recurrence of the accident.‎

At the time of publication, there was no official comment on or mention of the incident by Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba or any member of his government.
