Zuwara Naval Operations Force, affiliated with the Tripoli based Ministry of Defence, reported yesterday that it had successfully carried out two consecutive migrant boat interceptions in less than four hours.
It says these come as part of its ongoing efforts to protect Libyan shores and combat irregular migration.
The first operation took place on the evening of Monday, 29 September at 10:30 p.m., after the force’s units detected a grey and black inflatable boat carrying 59 irregular migrants of various nationalities, including 7 women, 1 child, and 51 men. Following close monitoring, naval vessels managed to intercept the boat and secure the migrants without any damages or injuries reported.
The second operation occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 30 September at 12:30 a.m., when the force intercepted a blue wooden boat carrying 58 migrants, including 3 women, 1 child, and 54 men. Despite relatively rough sea conditions, the naval units handled the situation with high professionalism, resulting in full control of the incident and the rescue of all migrants.
The Zuwara Naval Operations Force affirmed that these achievements come as part of a series of ongoing security operations aimed at curbing human smuggling networks in the western region, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The force also reiterated its full commitment to its national duty of safeguarding maritime borders and saving lives.
