The damaged and drifting Russian (LNG) gas tanker within Libyan territorial waters, the Arctic Metagaz, has been brought under control by Libya and is being towed away into international waters.
The intervention took place after the gas tanker drifted to about 35 kms off the western Libyan coast off Zuwara before a Central Operations Room formed of various Libyan entities by the Libyan government used a tugboat to tow the drifting vessel away.
There was huge concern that the vessel might shed its gas load and cause major environmental damage to the Mediterranean Sea and to the western Libyan coastline.
