Updated: Tripoli Labour Ministry discusses Filipino worker recruitment, vocational training centre and electronic link with Philippine ambassador

London, 9 December 2020:

Libya and the Philippines discussed joint cooperation between the two countries including Filipino worker recruitment, a vocational training centre and the electronic link.

The discussions took place during a meeting in Tripoli yesterday between the Tripoli Libyan Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation, Al-Mahdi Al-Amin, and Ambassador of the Philippine to Libya, Elmer Cato.

The meeting discussed:

  • Regulations of recruitment and workforce mechanisms
  • The entry of Filipino workers who wish to work in Libya through the signing of an understanding agreement between the two countries
  • The possibility of benefiting from Filipino expertise in the fields of vocational, professional and technical training and hotel professions
  • The possibility of establishing a Libyan-Filipino centre in Libya specialized in the fields of training on medical and auxiliary medical professions through participation or investment with the private sector.
  • The start of the electronic link project between the ministries of labour in both countries was discussed.
  • Easing the travel ban imposed by the Philippines on Filipino workers wishing to work in Libya, in order for Libya to benefit from skilled Filipino workers in the fields of medical and auxiliary medical professions and the oil and gas sector.

For his part, the Philippine ambassador expressed his happiness for the meeting, stressing the Philippine government’s interest in developing joint cooperation with Libya in various fields.

The Ambassador subsequently revealed on his twitter account that he also discussed the delays in the payment of salaries and transfer of remittances of Filipino workers in Libya which he said the Minister promised to convey to the Presidential Council led by Prime Minister Faiez Al-Sarraj.
