London, 12 October 2020:

Tunisia’s new ambassador to Libya, Al-Asaad Al-Ajili (الأسعد العجيلي), handed in his credentials to Libya’s internationally recognized Prime, Minister Faiez Al-Sarraj, in Tripoli on Saturday.

Al-Ajili was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia to Libya, for the first time since 2014, about a month ago.

He is a senior officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is familiar with the Libyan file, reportedly assigned in January 2019 to conduct studies and research on the Libya file.

It is worth noting that the Tunisian embassy in Libya was closed in 2014, and later the Consulate General was closed in 2015, due to the deteriorating security situation in the country.

Al-Ajili’s credentials were received part of a large ceremony in Tripoli on Saturday for nine newly appointed ambassadors.
