Tripoli prime minister Khalifa Ghwell has called Khalifa Hafter a criminal and mad dog for his . . .[restrict]defeat of the “heroes”in Benghazi and Ajdabiya and accused him of synchronising his assault with the IS descent on Sabratha.
In a speech of considerable bitterness last night, Ghwell said that his government strongly condemned what he called “the criminal incidents” of the fighting in both locations. He insisted that after Hafter had failed to overcome the heroes in Benghazi, he had called on French forces “ to kill the sons of our nation”. It has been reported but not confirmed that French troops in Benina airbase were supporting the army’s assaults this week.
Ghwell also claimed that the IS attacks in Sabratha, which had killed 16 locals, had been organised in cooperation with the Hafter.
“ We can confirm that IS and Hafter are two faces of the same coin” he said, “Both of them are trying to terminate the 17 February Revolution”.
Ghwell demanded that “these criminal acts” cease and a safe passage for medical aid be secured and that the international community do something about what was happening.
He also turned on the Tunisians, telling its government to stop its citizens from sneaking into Libya.
He said that those who had signed the Libyan Political Accord should now recognise the reality that it was a conspiracy against the Revolution.
He concluded: “We call on all the Revolutionary heroes to stand together and strike with an armed fist anyone who threatens the Revolution”. [/restrict]
