The Western-based Grand Mufti of Libya, Sheikh Sadig al-Ghariani lambasted the Tripoli based Libyan government over its governance failures this summer in failing to provide the most basic of necessities.
"People are suffering; they can't even find water or fuel. This is the consequence of negligence and laxity. This is the evil we see in the power outages, the cash shortages, and the violations of God's laws. Nothing can be done with this injustice, and life cannot be sustained.", he stated
Tripoli government’s lack of prioritisation
Al-Ghariani added that "The government's preoccupation with distractions, football, allocating budgets for the World Cup, opening malls, and organizing rallies is a waste of time and place. Luxury and entertainment have their time, provided they don't violate Islamic law and don't involve spending Muslims' money on things that displease God."
The Grand Mufti said "People need basic necessities and are dying because they can't afford a single pill. With this inflation, a large percentage of Libyans don't even get enough to last half the month. For example, a retiree might receive 900 dinars a month. How can they possibly live on that in this time of crisis?"
‘‘The government must pay attention to these issues, and the large gap that now exists between the classes of people is an injustice and must be brought to an end’’.
