Tripoli, 6 April 2013:
One of Turkey four deputy prime ministers, former interior minister Besir Atalay arrived in Tripoli today . . .[restrict]to take part in a conference on the prospects of wide-ranging cooperation between Libya and Turkey. Atalay is due to deliver a lecture at the event tomorrow, Sunday, which has been organised jointly by the Libyan Centre for Research and Development and the Turkish foreign ministry’s think tank SAM, the Centre for Strategic Research.
Atalay’s visit comes at a time of increasing rapprochement between Tripoli and Ankara, with some Turkish contractors resuming work on stalled pre-revolution construction projects, even though final terms for compensation and damages have not yet been agreed. Among other initiatives, Turkey has been training Libyan policemen and has supplied law enforcement equipment including police cars. [/restrict]
