Libya and Italy discuss strengthening development cooperation in training, capacity building and technical expertise in various fields

Libya and Italy discuss strengthening development cooperation.

The discussions came last Wednesday (3 September) when Ashraf Al-Tayeb, Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, hosted at the Ministry’s Tripoli headquarters Gianluca Alberini, Ambassador of Italy to Libya.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed strengthening development cooperation relations between the two states and prospects for bilateral partnership in this field, serving their common interests.

The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS)
In this context, the programmes and projects of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) were discussed. The Foreign Ministry stated that the AICS programmes are among the most prominent partnership programmes implemented by Italy in cooperation with Libya in this field.

The Tripoli based Libyan Foreign Ministry said the Italian Ambassador emphasized the importance of future programmes that the AICS seeks to implement in line with Libya’s development priorities, particularly in the areas of training, capacity building, and the exchange of technical expertise in various fields.

Cooperation in health, marine resources, sports and culture
The discussion also covered aspects of development cooperation in the health sector, marine resources, sports, and culture, and emphasized the need to continue working to develop these partnerships to achieve more tangible results in the future.

Economy, private sector, investment opportunities
In the same context, the importance of strengthening economic partnership and opening the door for the private sector in both countries to increase investment opportunities and develop joint projects was emphasized, contributing to advancing economic development.

The Director of the Cooperation Department affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is always ready to coordinate with the relevant parties to follow up on the implementation of these joint initiatives.

Both sides expressed their keenness to move forward in consolidating bilateral cooperation in various development fields through continuous consultation and coordination, in line with Libya’s aspirations at this stage and contributing to supporting its development efforts.
