The British Embassy has held several meetings with officials of airlines to discuss the resumption of flights between Libya and the UK.
The revelation came during today's meeting between Abubaker Ibrahim Al-Tawil, Director of the European Affairs Department of the Tripoli based Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry’s headquarters, with Ben Rawlings, Deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Libya.
The meeting was attended by Mustafa Abu Rukhais, Head of the Western Europe Division, and Hassan Al-Toumi, the official responsible for the United Kingdom file at the European Affairs Department.
The British side was represented by Georgia Ardizzone, Head of the Political Section at the British Embassy.
The meeting discussed ways to support and strengthen bilateral relations in various fields.
It also came as part of following up on the recommendations agreed upon during meetings between officials of the two countries, including:
Reviving the Joint Follow-up Committee between the two countries-
Resuming the work of the British Embassy’s Consular Section from its premises in Tripoli
Lifting the ban imposed on Libyan civil aviation.
For his part, the Deputy Ambassador affirmed, according to the Libyan side, that the British side would, in the near future, nominate its members to the Joint Follow-up Committee and prepare for the planned meeting between the relevant authorities responsible for cooperation in the two countries.
He also noted that the Embassy had held several meetings with officials of airlines to discuss the resumption of flights between the two countries.
In this regard, the Director of the European Affairs Department underscored to the British Deputy Ambassador the importance of establishing a direct air link between the two countries, given the large Libyan community residing in the United Kingdom and the significance of such a connection in strengthening bilateral relations.
He also pointed to the noticeable improvement in the level of services recently provided by airports in Libya, as well as the commencement of direct flights from Libya by several internationally renowned airlines.
He further noted the imminent reopening of Tripoli International Airport and the importance this represents in enhancing travel and connectivity between the two countries and supporting cooperation across various fields.
It will be recalled that in April, Libya Herald reported the CEO of Medsky anticipating the start of flights from Libya to London "soon".
