The Tripoli based Libyan government announced today the dismantling of a so-called ''sabotage cell'' and reveals what it called ''a major plot targeting Libyan assets''.
The Tripoli government said it has monitored the results of a specialized security and intelligence operation conducted by the Ministry of Defence. The operation led to the arrest of five individuals—both Libyan and foreign nationals—and the dismantling of an organized sabotage cell involved in suicide-drone attacks targeting oil storage tanks in Tripoli and Zawia, as well as the Zawia power plant.
Other drone attacks thwarted
Furthermore, the government said it had thwarted other plots on the verge of execution, most notably plans to target the South Tripoli power plant, alongside vital facilities and key political, security, and military figures.
A vast premeditated & interconnected sabotage plot
It revealed that evidence uncovered thus far confirms that the country was not facing isolated incidents or random acts, but rather a vast, interconnected sabotage plot involving multiple parties, methods, and objectives.
The plot systematically struck infrastructure, energy sources, and oil and electricity facilities, targeting Libyan assets and utilities directly linked to the people's security and livelihoods—all at a critical time when the country was experiencing significant pressure on services (acute power cuts and fuel shortages) during the summer season.
The government emphasizes that dismantling this cell marks not the end of the operation, but the beginning of unravelling the full scope and reach of the plot. Pursuit of the perpetrators, it added, will continue relentlessly until all those involved are apprehended and those who planned, funded, supported, facilitated, incited, or provided cover for these acts are exposed.
The government said the state will deal with an iron fist against anyone proven by investigations to be linked to this plot; no status, position, or military rank will shield individuals from accountability and prosecution, whether domestically or abroad.
While reassuring the Libyan people that their security and national assets are a red line, the government said it will—upon the conclusion of preliminary investigations—present to domestic and international public opinion the details of the findings, the scope and reach of the plot, and the identities of the parties involved and their backers; it will take legal and judicial action against them without exception.
