Benghazi’s Julyana Free Zone Port announced several achievements in September in its development progress.
Containers transferred from Julyana docks to its Ganfuda Storage Terminal
The Free Zone announced the actual start of operations to transfer stored containers from its docks to its Ganfuda Storage Terminal, a move aimed at alleviating the growing congestion within the port and improving its operational efficiency.
The Free Port reported that trucks began night operations transporting containers using an initial 25 trucks, commencing the direct flow from the docks to the Ganfuda Terminal, which was previously equipped as an auxiliary facility for the port.
The Ganfuda Terminal covers a total area of 37 hectares and is a strategic terminal located west of Julyana Port, along the coast and approximately nine kilometres away.
The terminal has been equipped with all operational requirements, including lighting poles and yards equipped to receive very large numbers of containers.
The second phase of the project will see containers relocated from the current storage yards at Juliana Port to the Ganfuda terminal, as part of an integrated expansion plan aimed at supporting the free zone port’s infrastructure.
Julyana said this comes particularly in light of the significant increase in shipping line traffic and the continued growth in the number of incoming containers.
