Zawia Oil Refinery today confirmed the news, that has been circulating on social media for several days, that the Ministry of Defence’s Petroleum Facilities Guards (PFG) has blockaded its main entrance in an industrial action protesting their pay and conditions.
The PFG is the entity charged by the Tripoli Ministry of Defence with the security of Libya’s sensitive petroleum facilities.
However, it seems that the PFG have only blockaded the main entrance and are allowing the use of a secondary entrance.
Here is the full statement by Zawia Oil Refinery:
Due to the closure of the main gate of the oil complex as a result of the sit-in by members of the Petroleum Facilities Guards (PFG), we inform all employees of the Zawia Oil Refining Company that work at the company continues normally.
Accordingly, the entry movement of users to the company’s headquarters will be temporarily through the entrance of the Brega Oil Marketing Company, until the main gate is reopened.
We call on everyone to adhere to the specified entry route, and to cooperate with the competent authorities, to ensure the smooth flow of movement and the continuity of work.
