The American Chamber of Commerce in Libya (AmCham Libya) informed Libya Herald today that U.S. Economic Officers to Libya, David Morrison and Marina Galkina, visited Benghazi today where they held a meeting with the Benghazi Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture at its Benghazi headquarters.
The Americans met Munim Al-Saiti, the acting Chairman of Benghazi Chamber, Ramadan Bu Batina, the International Relations Officer at Benghazi Chamber, in the presence of Ahmed Al-Ghazali, Vice President of AmCham Libya.
Al-Saiti presented to the guests a brief overview of the work of the Benghazi Chamber of Commerce, its support for companies, and its relations with the AmCham Libya.
The American Economic Attachés asked about the extent to which businessmen in Benghazi benefit from the exhibition trips arranged by AmCham Libya and what are the areas in which they need the presence of American companies.
Al-Saiti noted that the best area for the presence of American companies at the present time is the field of agriculture and livestock.
American presence an indication of serious intentions
The American Economic Attachés expressed their readiness to cooperate and open channels and noted that for a decade, specifically since 2012, no economic attachés have come to Libya. They said their presence reflects the seriousness of the American side and its desire for economic cooperation, reconstruction of Libya and opening trade channels between the two countries.
AmCham’s role in coordinating visits
Ahmed Al-Ghazali, Vice President of the AmCham Libya, stated that AmCham had an important role in coordinating businessmen’s trips from Benghazi to the United States of America to attend exhibitions arranged by the American Chamber of Commerce in Libya.
This, he added, reflects the AmCham’s interest and desire in opening channels for Libyan businessmen and Libyan companies and to bring American delegations to Benghazi to witness the security, safety and current economic renaissance in Benghazi.
