AmCham Libya confirmed to Libya Herald today that it is preparing to lead a large delegation of Libyan businesspeople to OTC (Offshore Technology Conference) in Houston, Texas on 6-9 May.

OTC includes an exhibition of suppliers and a series of conferences focused on exchanging technical knowledge relevant to the development of energy resources, primarily oil and natural gas.

AmCham says OTC is the largest oil and gas sector trade show in the world. There are expected to be over 30,000 visitors and 1300 exhibitors. OTC includes attendees from around the globe, with more than 120 countries represented at recent conferences.

Up to 100 Libyan business delegates
AmCham confirmed that it is expected that the Libyan delegation could be up to 100 people.

Debbie Hirst, President of AmCham Libya, said “We are very excited about the group going to OTC this year. This is the second year we have supported a delegation, and this year’s group is much larger than the previous one, so we are happy with the growing interest. This year we reached out to local chamber partners from around the country including the Benghazi, Misrata, Tripoli and Sebha Chambers of Commerce and the Libyan Businessmen Council, so we feel the delegation represents Libya well.

We wouldn’t be able to participate in OTC without strong support from the U.S. Embassy, which considers commercial engagement between U.S. and Libyan companies to be a priority.” Debbie continued, “I will be taking a Libyan flag with me so that we can proudly show the other OTC visitors that we are there, and that they should be aware of the potential in Libya. We consider participation in events like this to be important to increasing the awareness of U.S. companies about the opportunities in Libya.”
