Mahmoud Al-Furjani, Director General of the National Development Agency (NDA), received the Ambassador of France to Libya, Thierry VALLAT, at the NDA’s headquarters in Sirte yesterday.
The Ambassador was accompanied by a delegation from the Regional Economic Department and Business France, as well as representatives from three French companies specializing in sports infrastructure, specialized medical transport, and sustainable agriculture. The visit was part of an official tour to review key development projects currently being implemented by the NDA.
The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Sirte, Mukhtar Al-Maadani, and the President of the University of Sirte, Suleiman Al-Shater.
Discussions focused on ways to enhance cooperation and support the Municipality and University of Sirte. The meeting also highlighted the NDA's efforts to execute development projects in alignment with the "Libya 2030 Vision".
The visit included a field tour of several sites—representing a sample of the projects the NDA is implementing across central and southern Libya—such as Sirte Gulf International Airport, the Sirte Free Zone Port, Sirte International Stadium, and various bridges. Notably, the tour included the "Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous" Bridge in the Al-Za'faran area, a project being executed by a French company.
The delegation received technical briefings from the NDA’s engineers and contractors regarding work progress and held side meetings with French company representatives to explore cooperation opportunities in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, education, aviation, and port operations.
Reporting on the visit, the French Embassy said the visit provided an opportunity to review the development projects overseen by the NDA and to assess the scope of work accomplished across the city. The Embassy said the Ambassador expressed his deep appreciation for the NDA's efforts, commending the professionalism and commitment of its teams, as well as the tangible results achieved in the reconstruction and development of Sirte.
The Embassy reported that the visit also facilitated an exchange of views regarding future cooperation opportunities between Libya and France in key sectors, aiming to support sustainable development and foster the exchange of expertise and economic partnerships.
This visit, the Embassy added, underscores the strength of French-Libyan relations, which are rooted in trust, dialogue, and a shared desire to build practical partnerships that serve the development and prosperity of both nations.
