The Department of Support and Development of Medical Services (DSDMS) reported Sunday that a medical delegation specialising in physical therapy services with various specialties arrived at the Misrata Physical Therapy Centre from Slovakia’s AXIS Medical.
An expanded meeting, the DSDMS reported, was held that included the management of the Misrata Centre with the AXIS medical team.
During the meeting, the provision of all the centre’s needs of modern medical equipment and devices was discussed, in addition to the medical personnel that the Slovak delegation will train.
Contract signed with Slovakian company AXIS Medical
It will be recalled that a contract was signed by the Department of Support and Development of Medical Services (DSDMS) on 11 October with Slovakian Company AXIS. The Libyan government had said this was agreement was the first of its kind since the 2011 February Revolution that ended the 42-year Qaddafi regime.
AXIS will operate the Misrata Physical Therapy Centre for patients with muscular dystrophy.
The partnership agreement was signed by DSDMS head Ahmed Militan in the presence of the Libyan Ambassador to Slovakia, Khaled Shaaban, and the embassy health advisor, Abdullah Ghaniyeh.
The DSDMS said this agreement comes in implementation of Cabinet decision No. 631 of 2023 and comes within the Tripoli based government’s plan to localize treatment at home and under the supervision and efforts of the Attorney General’s Office in the muscular dystrophy file instead of sending this segment for treatment abroad.
Advancing the localisation of treatment policy
The DSDMS had also said that this agreement is also considered the first step in advancing the localisation of treatment even further and will be followed by several steps when other centres throughout the country are ready.
