Tripoli, 9 April 2014:
The Ras Jedir border crossing with Tunisia is now open to normal traffic after discussions . . .[restrict]brought to an end its month-long closure.
Libyan and Tunisian border officials agreed to increase security measures to allow the safe movement of goods and passengers between the two countries. Further meetings are planned over the course of the week to agree to measures to combat smuggling.
Authorities have also made the decision to impose mandatory inspections to asses that vehicles are road-worthy as well as requiring insurance on cars and trucks passing through the overland crossing.
Ras Jedir was closed last month after a number of security incidents. Even Tunisian Prime Minister, Mehdi Jomaa, travelled to the Ras Jedir in a bid to end the deadlock. [/restrict]
