Tripoli, 1 February . . .[restrict]2013:
Air Malta has restarted its flights to Benghazi. The twice-weekly service began again yesterday, Thursday.
Flights were suspended last Thursday in response to calls by the British and a number of other Western governments for their citizens to leave Benghazi because of fears that they might be attacked.
The airline said that the time that the suspension followed “advice issued. . . by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office advising against all travel to the city”.
Prime Minister Ali Zeidan and other Libyan officials have called the Western move an “exaggeration” as have some westerners in Benghazi.
Air Malta’s decision to resume flights is being seen as evidence that the calls were an overreaction.
In addition to Thursdays, there is also an Air Malta flight between Malta and Benghazi on Tuesdays. [/restrict]
