With its support and supervision, the Department for Support and Development of Medical Services (DSDMS) reported yesterday that Tripoli’s Al-Hadba Al-Khadra General Hospital successfully performed the first Shockwave IVL procedure in Libya.
The procedure was carried out utilizing catheter-based intravascular lithotripsy technology (IVL).
Shockwave Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL)
Shockwave Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) is a minimally invasive treatment that uses sonic pressure waves (like technology used for kidney stones) to break up hardened calcium blockages inside arteries, making the blood vessels more flexible so doctors can safely open them and place a stent.
Localisation of health services
The DSDMS said the operation and procedure comes as part of its plan to localise medical treatment aimed at enhancing cardiac and interventional catheterization services and providing the latest therapeutic technologies within Libya.
This, in turn, comes as part of the Tripoli government’s wider plan to localise medical services and healthcare.
