The hospital said these efforts contribute to providing advanced patient care and reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for treatment – falling within the Tripoli government’s localisation of healthcare policy.
The hospital said the success of this procedure adds significant value to the record of Libyan medical achievements and reaffirms Al-Hadba Al-Khadra General Hospital’s dedication to its mission of leadership and excellence, keeping pace with scientific advancements and serving patients in accordance with the highest global medical standards.
The mitral valve
The mitral valve is a one-way heart valve with two flaps located between the left atrium and the left ventricle. It opens to let blood flow forward and closes to stop blood from leaking backward.
It sits on the left side of your heart, between the upper chamber (left atrium) and lower chamber (left ventricle).
The valve is made of two thin tissue flaps called leaflets (a bicuspid valve). The valve pens when the heart relaxes to let oxygen-rich blood pass through, then shuts tightly when the heart squeezes to pump blood out to the body.
