The Head of the Department of Support and Development of Medical Services (DSDMS), Ahmed Mlitan, held a meeting with the Italian San Donato Group in Tripoli yesterday to discuss developing the health sector.
During the meeting he outlined a vision and a mechanism for training medical personnel and preparing proposals for the management and medical operation of health centres and facilities in Libya.
This visit is part of a series of visits by the Italian delegation aimed at assessing the equipment and capabilities available at health centres and facilities. The goal is to formulate a comprehensive development plan aligned with the Prime Minister’s initiative—specifically the "Return to Life" project—and its implementation mechanisms.
The visit included a field and technical tour of Tripoli University Hospital to evaluate existing equipment and capabilities, as well as to assess the facility's status, thereby facilitating the development of plans for its improvement.
The programme also entails conducting a comprehensive study of Tripoli Medical Hospital to evaluate operational potential and draft a complete proposal for management and medical operations. This aligns with the objectives of the agreement signed between the DSDMS and the Italian side, aiming to enhance the quality of health services provided to citizens.

The DSDMS is part of the Prime Minister's Office, and its role is to lead reform in Libya’s ailing health sector beyond Libya’s bureaucratic Ministry of Health.
