The Department of Support and Development of Medical Services (DSDMS) announced yesterday the arrival of a specialized American paediatric cardiac surgery team in Tripoli, in collaboration with Tripoli University Hospital.

The DSDMS stated that the American medical team has arrived in the capital to perform surgeries on children from various Libyan cities at Tripoli University Hospital.

Localising medical care
This initiative is being carried out as part of a broader strategy to localize medical care—aimed at providing highly specialized medical services and strengthening the capabilities of national healthcare institutions. The goal is to ensure that advanced medical treatments are available within Libya, thereby reducing the need for patients to seek care abroad.

The DSDMS said these efforts are being overseen and supported by its head, Dr. Ahmed Melitan, reflecting its commitment to attracting specialized medical teams, fostering cooperation with healthcare institutions, and enhancing the medical services provided to children.

The DSDMS said it is continuing to implement programmes designed to support healthcare facilities and improve their medical and technical efficiency, ultimately contributing to better quality of care and greater access to specialized treatment for citizens within the country.
