Libya’s Tripoli based government reported that a virtual meeting was held yesterday (Thursday 12 February), between the Prime Minister’s Initiatives Executive Team, the National Mining Corporation, and the United States Geological Survey (USGS), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership between Libya and the United States.
The meeting discussed mechanisms for implementing geological survey programmes, exchanging data and expertise, building capacity, and enhancing the skills of national personnel. This aims to develop the geological database and enhance the attractiveness of the mining sector for investment.
The meeting was attended by Mustafa Al-Mana, Head of the Executive Team for the Prime Minister’s Initiatives and Strategic Projects, and Faraj Al-Shandouli, Chairman of the National Mining Corporation. Representatives from the US State Department, the US Embassy, and the USGS, along with several experts, also participated.
This meeting follows up on the October 2025 meeting in Washington, D.C., during which an agreement was reached to strengthen technical cooperation and build a long-term institutional partnership in the field of geological surveys.
