Taher Al-Baour, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received last Sunday (22 February) Ma Xuliang, the newly appointed Ambassador of China to Libya, in the presence of Hassan Mohammed Rabha, Director of the Asia and Australia Affairs Department at the Ministry.
During the meeting, Al-Baour received a copy of the Ambassador’s credentials, in preparation for the commencement of his official duties in Libya.
Al-Baour welcomed the Ambassador, wishing him success in his mission, and reaffirmed Libya’s keenness to strengthen its relations with the People’s Republic of China and to further develop the level of strategic partnership between the two countries in all fields, including economy, investment, infrastructure, and energy, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two friendly nations.
For his part, the Ambassador expressed his country’s appreciation and gratitude for the facilities and support provided by the Government of National Unity and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which contributed to the swift resumption of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China’s operations from within Libya. He affirmed his country’s commitment to enhancing its diplomatic presence and activating the frameworks of the strategic partnership, reflecting the shared desire to advance bilateral relations to broader horizons.
The meeting also addressed enhancing coordination and joint consultation between the two countries in upcoming international forums and events, reflecting the development of bilateral relations and embodying the level of trust and understanding between the State of Libya and the People’s Republic of China.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing political consultations on various regional and international issues of common interest.
The meeting concluded with both sides renewing their commitment to advancing Libyan-Chinese relations toward a more effective and balanced partnership, with a focus on developing mechanisms for economic and trade cooperation, and strengthening training programmes as well as cultural and diplomatic exchanges, in a way that consolidates the frameworks of strategic cooperation between the two countries in the long term.
