Sirte Oil and Gas Production and Processing Company reported last Tuesday (11 August) that its Libyan workforce at the Al-Hatiba field—the company’s largest gas field—successfully brought Well S-24 online and connected it to the gas plant on Tuesday morning.
The new well produces approximately 5 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Sirte Oil said this contribution helps stabilize gas supplies and maintain the production rates required to operate the industrial complex and the Libyan Fertilizer Company plants, thereby enhancing supply reliability and underscoring the achievement's importance to the company's operational activities.
The well connection was executed using the company’s internal resources and by optimizing available materials and equipment—overcoming challenges through the teamwork and joint efforts by several departments.
The company pointed out that production rates at the Al-Hatiba field have seen a marked improvement following the tie-in of wells S-02 and S-28 to the production stream. Gas production rates rose from approximately 90 million cubic feet per day to 103 million cubic feet per day. The tie-in of well S-24 aims to maintain these targeted production levels and ensure their continuity, thereby meeting the needs of consumers and vital industrial sectors.
Furthermore, the Chairman of the company emphasized that the company looks forward to completing its gas system development projects in the coming phase and linking the Al-Hatiba field's production with the Al-Istiqlal field. This initiative will enable optimal utilization of available gas volumes—after meeting the requirements of the Libyan Fertilizer Company—and achieve full integration between the company's gas fields within a unified and more efficient production and transport system.
This strategic project, the Chairman added, will enable the consolidation of gas flows through the main 30-inch and 36-inch (B) transmission lines. This will enhance the operational system's flexibility and capacity, allowing for the transport of larger gas volumes in the future.
Such improvements will support the plans of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and Sirte Oil Company to increase production and maximize the utilization of available gas resources.
