The International Forum & Exhibition for Free Zones – Misrata: 28 to 29 June at Misrata Free Zone

‎Misrata Free Zone (MFZ) port has been ranked as the 20th most improved port in a 2025 World Bank report. The report says the port’s performance index jumped by +67.9 points in one year. The report covered more than 400 ports around the world.

MFZ says this improvement comes despite the slowdown in North African ports due to the Red Sea turmoil. ‎Regionally, MFZ port came after Port Said, Tangier, and Damietta in terms of overall ranking, but it outperformed in the annual rate of improvement to be first in North Africa in terms of the pace of development and growth in performance.‎

MFZ says these improvement rankings are based on the Container Port Productivity Index (CPPI) which is based on ship tracking data, specifically Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, along with vessel-level timestamps provided by shipping companies. The CPPI uses this data to calculate the “total port hours” – the time a container ship spends from its arrival at port limits to its departure from the berth, after completing cargo operations

‎MFZ says this world ranking progress reflects the success of its management in developing operational efficiency and strengthening the port scheduling and services system, which has led to a reduction in the waiting time of ships and significantly raising the readiness of docks and equipment.‎
