The Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAIP) opened its Prime Atlantic Hotel in the Gambian capital Banjul last Saturday after the completion of the first phase of its maintenance, LAIP’s Media Department informed Libya Herald.
LAIP, created under the Qaddafi regime, is Libya’s sovereign investment fund specialised in investments in Africa. It owns and manages the Prime Atlantic Hotel.
The opening ceremony was led by LAIP’s Chairman, Mustafa Abu Funas, the Chairman of the Union of Turkish Companies Investing in Africa, Emin Çakmak, and the Chairman of the Turkish Arsi Company, Saruhan.
They were accompanied by member of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni, the Tripoli based Minister of Youth, Tripoli Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to Africa, Fatah. Allah Al-Zani, in the presence of the Libyan Ambassador to the State of Gambia and the Libyan representative to the Organization of the Islamic Conference and his deputy, in addition to several of employees of the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the Gambian side, the opening ceremony of the hotel was attended by the Gambian Ministers of Tourism, Economy, Investment and Youth, the Mayor of Banjul Municipality, and the Chairman of the Gambian Tourism Board.
The opening ceremony coincided with the hotel hosting delegations participating in the 15th Islamic Summit Conference held by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Gambia, from May 4 to 5, under the slogan ‘‘Promoting Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development’’.
