The Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAIP) informed Libya Herald yesterday that during a meeting held on 11 November 2025 at its Tripoli headquarters, attended by the Chairman of the Board and the Director of Strategic Planning, a high-level African Union delegation affirmed its support for the Libya Africa Transit Corridors Project.
The high-level African Union delegation included:
● The Chair and members of the Standing Committee for Monitoring and Implementing the African Union Agenda 2063 at the Libyan Council of Ministers.
● The Chair and members of the African Union Development Agency – NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), affiliated with the African Union Commission.
● Members of the Five-Member Committee of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union (ECOSOCC).
From the ports of Misrata and Benghazi deep into the African continent
During the meeting, the LAIP presented an overview of its operations across Africa and within Libya, including the activities of its subsidiary companies. The briefing also highlighted its principal strategic initiatives, foremost among them the Libya Africa Transit Corridors Project, which extends from the ports of Misrata and Benghazi deep into the African continent.
Strategic gateway for sub-Saharan countries to European markets
The presentation outlined the project’s objectives, which aim to provide a strategic gateway for sub-Saharan countries to European markets, enhance Libya’s role as a regional logistics hub, and stimulate economic, trade, human and spatial development.
The initiative seeks to promote regional integration and deliver mutual benefits for Libya and the peoples of Africa. LAIP also reviewed the progress achieved by the Joint High Committee, responsible for planning, supervising and monitoring the implementation of the project. The committee comprises representatives from LAIP, the Ministry of Transport, and several other key government institutions.
African Union supports the strategic project
LAIP reported that participants expressed their ”strong support for the project and emphasised its strategic importance, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring its successful delivery. They pledged that the African Union’s agencies and bodies would endorse and promote the initiative across all relevant platforms, while providing every form of financial and technical assistance required”.
Project to be included in PIDA
It was further confirmed that the project will be included in the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), which encompasses the 69 priority projects identified by the African Union Commission as vital to advancing the continent’s development agenda.
