London, 25 June 2021:
A new consignment of 54,600 doses of Pfizer anti-Coronavirus vaccines arrived at Tripoli’s Mitiga airport yesterday, Libya’s Health Ministry, the National Centre for Disease Control and UNICEF reported. The consignment arrived through the COVAX Facility.
While this is the first batch of Pfizer vaccines to arrive, it is the third batch of vaccines to arrive through COVAX.
UNICEF reported that the Pfizer vaccines will be distributed to vaccination centres across the country, based on a distribution plan designed in coordination with the health authorities.
It also pointed out that Libya is a self-financing participant in the COVAX Facility and already received the first shipment of 57,600 doses in April and second shipment of 117,600 doses – both AstraZeneca brands.
UNICEF reported that Libyan government representatives welcomed the arrival of additional does of COVID-19 vaccines and appreciated the efforts of UNICEF, WHO, CEPI and GAVI.
