Benghazi, 21 June 2016:
While LTT has today managed to fix a cable fault disrupting passport processing at Ras Jedir, it is now struggling to fix a problem that has cut communication to a large area in the south-east of the country.
According to the state telephone company ‘phone links to Hun, Kufra, Jagbub and Tazerbu have been cut by a fault in Benghazi. LTT said that the malfunction was in power equipment. In a statement it apologised to subscribers and said that it was working as quickly as possible to sort out the breakdown.
The disruption in the data link to the Res Jedir crossing meant that immigration staff were unable to use passport checking software. It was reported that the problem, which arose yesterday, led to significant delays at the border control, though one source said that this mostly affected non-Libyans coming into the country.
