Tripoli, 21 June 2016:
Disproving rumours that he had gone on holiday to Europe, the head of the Presidency Council Faiez Serraj has been to Tripoli Medical Centre and promised to address its many problems.
These include both acute shortages of medicines and equipment but also of staff, particularly nurses, many of whom were from abroad and left because the political situation and unpaid salaries.
Visiting various sections including the children’s oncology unit, he met staff and patients both of whom have been complaining about the poor levels of service at the 1,200-bed hospital, the largest in Libya, with a staff of over 6,000.
