Another two people wounded in yesterday’s mortar attack on demostratriors in Bengahzi’s Kish square died today, bringing . . .[restrict]the total number of those killed to seven. All the victims have now been identified including one whose identity was initially unknown.
The UN Special Envoy Martin Kobler has called joined House of Representatives President Ageela Saleh and the Presidency Council in Tripoli in expressinbg horror at the attack and calling for those responsible to be found and brought to account.
I am horrified by the attack on peaceful demonstrators in Al-Kish Square; I strongly condemn this heinous crime.” He said, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
“Whoever is responsible must be held accountable,” he added.
UNSMIL have pointed out that under International Humanitarian Law, carrying out direct attacks on civilians or indiscriminate attacks are war crimes and that those responsible can be prosecuted, including by the International Criminal Court, with its ongoing jurisdiction on Libya.
Benghazi municipal council has also said that there would be an investigation with a view to taking criminal preoceedings against those deemed responsible. [/restrict]
