By Libya Herald reporters.
Tripoli, 3 September 2015:
It is being reported that hardliner Abdulrahman Sewehli has become part of the four-man GNC . . .[restrict]negotiating team now in Geneva for the latest round of UNSMIL’s political dialogue.
Sewehli, from Misrata, is both a member of the old GNC and a boycotting member of the House of Representatives in Tobruk. He replaces Omar Hemidan, the long-standing GNC spokesman.
The GNC team has been restructured following the resignation of its leader Salah Makhzoum, the GNC’s second deputy president. He has been replaced by Awad Abdul Saddeq, the rump parliment’s first deputy president. Also new to the team is Mohamed Abdul Nabi Bagi from Murzuk. The only member from past negotiations is Mohammad Al-Amari of Benghazi who heads the GNC’s Islamist Wafa block.
A diplomat in Geneva has told the Libya Herald that negotiations, which were due to start this afternoon have been delayed until the evening. The House of Representatives participants were held up at Tobruk airport after the wing of their aircraft was reportedly hit by an ambulance. A replacement plane was understood to be too small to take the four members of the HoR team and their support staff.
Therefore, when they eventually arrived in Tunis, they were too late for their connection to Geneva.
