Central Shield, one of the primary components of Libya Dawn, is willing . . .[restrict]to negotiate with the UN’s special envoy, the revolutionary brigade has announced.
Speaking at a televised press conference last night the spokesman for Libya Central Shield, Ahmed Hideyah, told reporters that group would enter into talks with Bernardino Leon, guaranteed by the international community.
Hideyah reaffirmed the Central Shield’s rejection of foreign intervention and said the Misrata-based force would defend the country and the February revolution against foreign aggression.
Bernardino Leon, who is set to take over as the UN’s special envoy to Libya in two days time, has said it is his goal to enter into meaningful talks with all parties involved in the current national crisis. The UN has, however, backed the House of Representatives as the sole authority in the country. Libya Central Shield and Operation Dawn have said repeatedly that the House is illegitimate.
Last week the UN Security Council passed a resolution on Libya imposing sanctions including travel bans and financial penalties against those who are deemed to have threatened Libya’s stability and democratic progress. While no names have been mentioned it would be surprising if the commanders of Central Libya Shield along with the leaders of other brigades in Benghazi and Sirte were not hit.
Hideyah also announced that Libya Dawn would be creating a commission to as it continued in its work of “correcting the path of the revolution”. He said that the Misratan-led operation was committed to a road-map which ensured the peaceful transfer to democracy and crucially that revolutionary leaders needed to have greater influence during the current transitional phase.
