Akakus Oil Operations Company announced yesterday the use of SLB’s (Schlumberger) Rhino Reamer technology, the first in the Middle East and North Africa region – to successfully drill an oil well.
Akakus said this comes as part of efforts to improve operational performance and address the technical challenges associated with horizontal well drilling.
Akakus said its Drilling Department, through its engineering staff and in coordination with SLB and Camco, successfully implemented the new technology to address recurring problems during the drilling of a 12.5-inch diagonal section. This was particularly for the issue of pipe collapse resulting from wellbore wall failure during drilling of the Tanezrouft rock formation.
In collaboration with SLB, the Rhino Reamer was successfully used during the drilling of well M.24H-NC115. The 12.5-inch diagonal section was drilled and extended to 14 inches during drilling without any operational problems.
This application of this technology is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region, representing a significant technical and engineering achievement that adds to the department’s track record of operational success, Akakus added.
