Tripoli, 16 March 2017:
A Turkish cargo vessel has foundered off Misrata and seven of the 13-man crew are feared drowned.
The MV Tinaztepe was at anchor and waiting to enter Misrata when it is believed that its cargo of marble shifted in heavy seas. Some reports say that the vessel capsized quickly. The eight survivors were brought ashore by a rescue craft and taken shocked and half naked to Misrata hospital for checks.
The 1900-ton Turkish-flagged general cargo vessel was 38 years old.
Turkey operates a consulate in Misrata and it is likely that the diplomats are dealing with the crew members. There was no one available at the Turkish embassy in Tripoli to provide further details.
