Tripoli University Hospital reported last Sunday (12 July) that its Urology Department resumed performing flexible ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy (kidney stone fragmentation).
A specialized medical team led by Professor Abdulghani Hussein successfully performed five procedures, marking the return of a service that had been suspended for over a decade. This initiative took place within the framework of a workshop organized by the department.
Professor Abdulghani Hussein emphasized that flexible ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy represents a state-of-the-art therapeutic technique. It offers a safe alternative to traditional surgery, sparing patients from open surgery and its associated pain and complications, while also reducing hospital stays and accelerating recovery.
He noted that the department possesses qualified medical professionals with the necessary expertise to perform these procedures regularly. He commended the Tripoli University Hospital administration for its support and commitment to providing the resources and equipment required to resume this vital medical service.
He also praised the efforts of the medical, nursing, and technical teams in ensuring the success of the operations, highlighting their high level of professional competence.
Localisation of medical treatment
The resumption of laser kidney stone lithotripsy aligns with the directives of the Tripoli government regarding the localisation of medical treatment and the enhancement of healthcare services. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden of medical treatment on citizens and provide specialized medical care in accordance with the highest approved professional standards.
