Tripoli University Hospital reported yesterday that, in a medical achievement reflecting the advancement of its laparoscopic surgery services, the Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery team in the Department of Oncology, Liver, and Pancreas Surgery, led by Professor Ali Al-Gallai, recently performed a successful laparoscopic repair of a congenital anterior diaphragmatic hernia, eliminating the need for open surgery.
Laparoscopic surgery, or keyhole surgery, is a minimally invasive medical procedure where a surgeon operates through small incisions using a specialized camera and thin instruments.
The hospital reported that the patient's condition showed excellent recovery following the procedure, enabling him to leave the hospital after 23 hours.

This achievement, the hospital added, is part of Tripoli University Hospital's efforts to provide advanced surgical services, promote the use of modern laparoscopic surgery techniques, and continue training and developing a new generation of surgeons, thereby raising the level of expertise in specialized surgical fields.
The success of the operation confirms the importance of the integration of the medical team, as the cooperation between the surgical team, the anaesthesia and nursing team, along with the supporting departments and services, contributed to providing integrated care for the patient and ensuring the best treatment results.
The surgical operation is part of a series of operations announced by the hospital and comes as part of the Tripoli government’s policy to localise the provision of healthcare.
This saves the privately funded patient the inconvenience and cost of having the operation abroad. It also saves the state the cost of subsidising health treatment abroad.
