Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba, assured Libyans that ‘‘no decision regarding Libya’s future will be made without the Libyans or imposed upon them; we will proceed only with what the Libyan people agree upon. National solutions are built on courage, and making concessions is an act of nobility when done for the sake of the homeland’’.

Aldabaiba was speaking yesterday during the Fourth Ordinary Cabinet Meeting of 2026, held in the city of Zliten.

UNSMIL has been conducting a political process aimed at a unified Libyan government leading to the holding of elections.

In parallel, the US is also working on a process whereby the Hafter family and Aldabaiba are guaranteed a political position in the interim process. This possibly involves appointing a Hafter member head of the Presidency Council while Aldabaiba remains PM. Both would oversee elections.

At yesterday's Cabinet meeting, Aldabaiba vowed that in the coming period, he will address the Libyan public to present the full picture and speak candidly about the various initiatives and ideas currently being proposed.

‘‘We will listen to diverse opinions and visions through a national dialogue involving municipalities, political parties and forces, and civil society organizations.

No decision concerning Libya’s future will be made without your involvement or imposed upon you.

We will move forward only with what gains the acceptance of the Libyan people; whatever they reject, we will not accept.

National solutions are built only through compromise and courage.

Compromise is an act of nobility when made for the sake of the homeland, and courage is essential when making the right decision.

We assure our people that the development agreement continues.

We want to build a civil state and appeal to the will of the people to hold fair elections away from the logic of force

There is no place in Libya for extrajudicial detention or infringement on freedom of expression, and the state is responsible for the rights of citizens and the enforcement of the law for all without exception.’’
