The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that Public Prosecutor’s Office is continuing its efforts to prevent the manipulation of citizenship data and address its detrimental consequences on economic, social, and political rights.
In this regard, it reported that investigators into the falsification of Civil Registry data became suspicious of sixty-one family records related to transfers from the Ubari Civil Registry Office to the Hun and Sukna Civil Registry Offices.
The investigation revealed that the transfer of these records—despite them not being part of the Civil Registry’s database—facilitated the acquisition of National Identification Numbers and Libyan passports for two hundred and twenty-five foreign nationals of Malian origin.
This enabled them to receive grants allocated to Libyans, and some even secured public sector jobs and other benefits derived from citizenship.
Consequently, the Public Prosecutor’s Office decided to suspend the related administrative procedures and initiated legal proceedings against those responsible for the incidents under investigation.
