Libya needs over one million housing units over next 10 years costing over 200 billion dinars

The Tripoli based Libyan Minister of Housing and Construction, Abubakr Awidat, stated that the total number of housing contracts concluded from 2008 until their suspension in 2010 reached 255,000 units.

Of these, 134,000 units are being implemented by the state Housing and Infrastructure Board (HIB), 22,000 by the state Savings Bank, and approximately 99,000 by the state Organisation for the Development of Administrative Centers (ODAC), distributed throughout Libya.

War damaged houses
Awidat added that the extent of damage to citizens’ homes between 2011 and 2018 amounted to approximately 38,000 homes, and during 2019, approximately 16,000 homes were damaged in the southern Tripoli and Al-Aziziyah areas.

Libya needs more than one million housing units in next 10 years
The Minister revealed that Libya needs to more than one million housing units over the next ten years through the National Housing Programme, with a total value exceeding 200 billion dinars. The programme will be financed outside the state budget through the participation of the private sector and real estate developers.
