A validation workshop was held in Tripoli last week to finalise Libya’s National Drought Management and Mitigation Strategy and Action Plan
UNDP Libya reports that the event was held in partnership with the National Committee to Combat Desertification, led by the Ministry of Agriculture, with funding from the EU.
The UNDP says that with 95% of Libya’s land being desert and with climate change intensifying, this strategy will be more than just a plan— but rather a roadmap to a more resilient future.
It provides a framework to help communities and institutions in Libya better manage their precious water and land resources, which are under immense pressure.
The UNDP says by bringing together key stakeholders, the event has taken a significant step toward implementing proactive measures to protect livelihoods and build resilience against the impacts of drought.
This is a crucial part of shared commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 15 and supporting Libya to comply with the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
