UNDP Libya revealed yesterday that Libya has reached an important milestone under the global Biodiversity Finance Initiative - BIOFIN, joining more than 90 countries working to develop their Biodiversity Finance Plans (BFPs).

During a workshop, in close partnership with the Ministry of Environment and national partners, UNDP Libya supported the validation of Libya's Policy and Institutional Review—an assessment that identifies the policies, institutions, and opportunities needed to strengthen investment in biodiversity.

The workshop brought together representatives from government, academia, civil society, and development partners to review the findings and help shape the next phase of the process.

The UNDP said this milestone lays the foundation for developing Libya's Biodiversity Finance Plan and mobilizing the investment needed to protect the country's unique ecosystems for future generations.
