The Minister of Environment reported today that, following its directives, and in response to an invitation from the management of Mellitah Oil & Gas, it participated—on October 18 and 19—in overseeing the installation of air pollution monitoring stations and equipment in the areas of Al-Fureikh, Jinan bin Naseeb, Bir al-Helu, and Al-Jadida, in coordination with the National Oil Corporation (NOC).

The Ministry was represented by the Head of the Environmental Inspection Department and the Director of Environmental Affairs Monitoring for the Al-Jadida area, alongside representatives from the National Oil Corporation and specialists from the maintenance and environmental departments of Mellitah Oil & Gas.

The Ministry said the project objectives and key focus areas are:

• Monitoring Pollution Levels: Providing accurate, real-time data on air quality in areas near the complex.

• Assessing the Environmental Situation: Periodically tracking environmental indicators and ensuring that necessary measures are taken in accordance with established standards.

• Strengthening Oversight and Coordination: Activating a partnership between the Ministry of Environment and oil sector entities to uphold environmental and social responsibility, thereby safeguarding public health.

The Ministry of Environment said this initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to enhancing field oversight and ensuring that companies operating within the oil sector comply with both national and international environmental requirements.
