The National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced yesterday that, through Mellitah Oil & Gas, it is finalising the operational procedures for a key project aimed at curbing gas flaring.

This initiative, it added, involves the construction and installation of a new unit designed to capture and utilise associated gas at the offshore Bouri field, supported by the full installation of surface equipment, pipelines, and the necessary infrastructure—all scheduled for completion by the end of this October.

The NOC said the project will enable the utilisation of approximately 100 million cubic feet of associated gas per day (equivalent to 25 billion cubic feet annually). This will bolster supplies for the domestic market and the power generation sector, while also contributing to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 1.5 million tons per year.

The NOC said this environmental and strategic achievement aligns with its broader plans to optimize the use of natural resources and reach "zero flaring" by 2030. It reflects a commitment to balancing increased production and enhanced operational efficiency with environmental protection, in accordance with established international standards.
