The Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAoL), in cooperation with GIZ Libya, through the Sustainable Transition, Energy and Environmental Partnership (STEP), hosted a high-level ceremony at REAoL’s Tripoli headquarters to mark major milestones in Libya’s renewable energy development.
The event celebrated the finalisation and handover of the report “Improving Libya’s Capacities for Resource Assessment and Quality Assurance.” which will serve as a valuable reference and roadmap for quality assurance in future photovoltaic (PV) projects in Libya. It also offers a practical learning tool for solar energy and resource assessment measurements.
The opening remarks were delivered by Abdul Salam Al-Ansari, Chairman of REAoL, Marton Benedek, Head of International Cooperation, EU Delegation to Libya, and Kirsten Garaycochea, Head of International Cooperation, German Embassy in Libya.
Following the report handover and a short technical presentation, the newly established Coordination Committee held its first meeting. The session included a round of introductions, a joint review of ongoing areas of support under the STEP Project, and discussions on the future structure of collaboration.
The event concluded with a knowledge exchange session led by a STEP Project Advisor, presenting key insights from Tunisia’s sustainable energy policy experience.
This milestone occasion reaffirms the joint commitment of Libya, the European Union and Germany to advancing reliable, standardised, and sustainable renewable energy systems across Libya.
The STEP Project is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and jointly implemented by GIZ and the Prime Minister’s Office of Libya.
