Libya’s Tripoli based Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported yesterday that the restrictions on 1,800 Libyan bank accounts in Bank of Valletta, Malta have been lifted.
The announcement comes following a meeting yesterday between the Tripoli based Acting Foreign Minister, Taher Al-Baour, the Chairman of the Committee for the Lifting of Restrictions on the Funds and Properties of Libyan Citizens and Public Companies Abroad, the Members and the Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry, with the Ambassador of Malta to Libya, Charles Saliba, to discuss and evaluate what has been achieved by the committee formed under Prime Minister Aldabaiba’s Decree No. 26 of 2024.
During the meeting, it was also announced that the mechanisms for returning the funds of Libyan citizens deposited with Santa Bank were completed, and the return process will begin soon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will publish the necessary announcements for citizens concerned with this matter to bring the required documents, in coordination with the Maltese Embassy in Libya.
